VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

The Archdiocese of Chicago (AOC) is committed to protecting all of God’s children and providing a safe environment where children and young people can learn, thrive and grow. To that end, the AOC requires that all current employees and volunteers working with children complete specific steps and training, which are described below.

“One of the most important jobs we have been given as caring adults is to nurture children’s souls.”

  1. Complete and return a Volunteer Application.

  2. Attend VIRTUS/Protecting God’s Children for Adults.

    • You must attend a live training session, VIRTUS training is not offered online.

    • Advance registration is required. Please click here to view and register for an upcoming session near you.

    • Once you complete training, please deliver a copy of your certificate to the parish office. Please note, you must stay for the entire session in order to receive your certificate.

    • After you complete VIRTUS training, you will be asked to review periodic bulletins and complete a short quiz in order to keep current on issues regarding the wellbeing of children. Notice of these bulletins will be sent to you via e-mail, and in order to keep your volunteer status active, you will need to complete these periodic training bulletins in a timely manner.

    • If you have previously completed VIRTUS training in another diocese, please call (888) 847-8870 to request that your VIRTUS registration be transferred to the Archdiocese of Chicago. You must then submit a copy of your certificate/registration to the parish office.

  3. Read and sign the Code of Conduct form.

  4. Read and sign the Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking Form (CANTS).

  5. Complete Mandated Reporter Training.

    • Mandated Reporter Training is an online course, which will take approximately 1 hour to complete.

    • Once you have completed the training and passed the final quiz, you will be given the opportunity to print a certificate of completion. Please print this certificate and deliver a copy to the parish office.

St. Julian Eymard’s site administrator will monitor all Volunteer Applications and will be kept apprised of training progress. All signed forms and certificates will be kept on file in the parish office, along with your volunteer application. Periodically, we may require you to update your signed forms and/or training certificates in order to maintain compliance with Archdiocese of Chicago requirements for volunteers.

Questions? Please contact the parish office (847) 956-0130 or info@olbsegv.org if you have any questions about Volunteer Requirements or need to know if your forms and/or certificates are up to date.
